How to look up a license

  1. Open the City’s Licensed Trade Contractors page.

  3. Type the firm’s name or license number in the search box.
  4. Check the expiry date, and make sure “License inactive” isn’t marked.

Roofers: check the State license

Roofing contractors are licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. They must show their license number on bids, contracts and vehicles. Search the Illinois license lookup, or call 1-888-473-4858.

Use the same Illinois lookup for architects and structural engineers.
